SchoolSearchä announces the 8th annual Illinois School
District Year 2006 "Bright A+"ä Award Recipients

The award is based on those school districts with the highest academic performance in Illinois.

Sixty-one (61) Illinois School Districts (out of 879 school districts) are honored with the SchoolSearchä "Bright A+"ä Award of excellence. These school districts are among the top 5% of Illinois school districts academically based on the following criteria (Source: 2005 IL Report Card Data):

Elementary Criterion: The overall average percentage of the 3rd, 5th & 8th grade ISAT (Illinois Standards Achievement Test) meets or exceeds percentages of reading & math. The Illinois State range of the overall 3rd, 5th & 8th grade average ISAT percentage is 23.78 (lowest) -- 96.53 (highest). The Illinois State average for this percentage is 67.62. Elementary/Unit School Districts with a percentage of 88.22 or above on this criterion qualified for the award. Only school districts with complete test data sets are considered for this award. There are 743 school districts serving elementary students with complete test data sets (as per the IL State Board of Education).

Secondary Criterion: The ACT composite score of all students tested. The Illinois State District range of the ACT is 13.8 (lowest) -- 26.8 (highest) out of a possible range of 1-36. The Illinois State average ACT score is 20.2 & the U.S. average ACT score is 20.9. H S/Unit School Districts with an ACT score of 22.2 or above qualified for the award. There are 492 school districts serving high school students with ACT scores (as per the IL State Board of Education).

Highest Performing School Districts in Illinois
The highest performing school district serving elementary students is Sunset Ridge School District 29 in Northfield, IL - Cook County (96.53%). The highest performing school district serving high school students is New Trier TWP H S Dist 203 in Winnetka & Northfield, IL - Cook County (Act Score: 26.8). The "Bright A+"ä Award list is especially useful to families looking for a school district with a rigorous academic environment.
